Cozy Living
The wind-down ritual that finally fixed my sleep
Screens off, stars on. A simple 20-minute sequence to tell your nervous system the workday is over.
Cozy Living
Most sleep advice fails because it starts at bedtime. Real rest starts an hour earlier, with a clear line between work and not work.
The 20-minute sequence
- Minute 0: Shut the laptop and write down tomorrow’s first task. The open loop is what keeps you up.
- Minute 5: Change the lighting. Overheads off, warm glow on.
- Minute 10: Move the body gently — a stretch, a short walk, dishes. Anything analog.
- Minute 15: Something soft for the senses — a projector on the ceiling, a page of a real book.
Why the ritual matters
Your nervous system can’t tell the day is over unless you tell it. A consistent wind-down becomes a signal: we’re safe, we’re done, we can let go. Do it for a week and sleep stops being a battle.
